2020 – Barleywine – Barrel aged
Aged in an ex-Pinot barrel, layers of toffee and dried fruit make for a powerful beer that will age well.
This majestic ale celebrates six years of brewing at Cupitt’s Estate. Barleywine is a beer style very close to the heart of Head Brewer Liam Jackson. This release is tasting delicious with a lot of flavour and depth. A rich malt character: toffee, molasses and loads of dried fruit, preserved cherry, dried fig – reminiscent of a glass of port.
What is Barleywine?
Barleywines are among the strongest of all beer styles. The style originates from the UK, and can be traced back to the 18th century. Given the high alcohol content, they were traditionally, and often still are, aged in wood. Examples brewed to British traditions are typically less bitter, and less strong, than modern “American Barleywine” styles.
