LET’S SUPPORT OUR LOCAL RURAL FIRE SERVICE
This October Long Weekend we are raising money to help the local Milton Rural Fire Brigade.
The Shoalhaven area has on average 600 bush fires per year, of which an average of twenty fires can be considered to be major fires requiring a response by two or more fire authorities. The Shoalhaven can experience significant fire activity at any time of the year and fires in isolated parts of the LGA may burn for several days.
All 20-odd members of the Milton Rural Fire Brigade are volunteers and train regularly to fight bush fires, grass fires, building and vehicle fires, supporting other agencies during emergencies, as well as attending motor vehicle accidents. They also engage with our local residents and community as community engagement is the key to a better informed and safer community.
Cupitt’s is always busy over the October Long Weekend so we see it as an opportunity to help support our first responders in time of bushfire crisis.
Libby Cupitt says ‘‘Our community know the brave men and women that are our first responders in times of crisis. Many have full-time jobs, families and other responsibilities but give their time and risk their lives to fight for our community and property. It has been a very dry couple of years and the jobs each year are mounting. This event is about raising money but also showing appreciation for these volunteers who work tirelessly for all of us” she said. “So please come along to the event, thank them in person and enjoy a day out with your friends and family. All proceeds raised will help them to grow and continue to help keep us all safe.”
Entry on Sunday is ticketed, $15 per adult and $5 per child (2-12 years) and includes a festival wine or beer glass and live music from a fabulous local band Brothers from 1.00pm.
To show support you can purchase tickets for the Sunday fundraising event online.
Entry on Saturday is free and there will be a donation buckets available.
Milton Brigade now has a Facebook page that is the best place to go for the most recent brigade news and lots of photos and other information about the brigade.
