‘Hidden birds, Hidden words’ at Cupitt’s Tasting Room Gallery – oil paintings, mixed media drawings, new techniques on reclaimed paper and fabric. Local artist Megan Boonaerts is showcasing some new environmentally-friendly techniques in her upcoming exhibition, ‘Hidden Birds, Hidden Words’ this August. “I was concerned about the environmental impact artists can have, so instead of buying new paper, canvas and board I decided to create my own. I had great fun bonding layers of reclaimed office and studio papers together, reusing pieces of board and even upcycling some great vintage linen teatowels!” The exhibition includes a variety of media such as charcoal, pastels, inks, watercolour, oil and acrylic paints. Megan’s subjects are local landscapes, often with domesticated and wild animals and birds. In addition to these new environmentally conscious creations, the exhibition will feature collage and mixed media works using the skills she developed as one of last year’s Fast Forward Grant recipients. Megan has also included a number of “alla prima” style oil paintings on canvas, one of which won her “best landscape” in the 2013 Shoalhaven Open Art Prize. “Hidden birds, hidden words showcases a variety of smaller works between 30 and 60cm, as well as a selection of unframed drawings, which can be framed to your own taste.” Opening event – Sun 17th August, 3pm.
